The hospitality sector has seen a revolution in the last decade. There has been an increase in both domestic and international travel which has brought big business to hotels all over. The total worth of hotel industries for the year 2019 is USD $570 million. The hotel industry provides services such as accommodation, food & beverages, travel tourism and recreation.

There are hotels premium and luxury to accommodate and provide a lavish experience to its guests but that kind of customer who would afford that lavish treatment is not something that a hotel should expect through out the year. This is where the economy and budget friendly hotels come into play.

Many start up firms saw this  as an opportunity and many existing hotels came up with a stay range affordable by a large population segment with upper- middle, lower- middle and low income groups. The IHCL, Indian hotel company limited a sub group of the Tata conglomerate group that was opened by Jamsetji Tata in the year 1903 was -The Taj Mahal Palace . Then IHCL expanded its business and now manages a a portfolio of hotels,  resorts, jungle safaris, palaces, spas and in-flight catering services. t has more than 160 hotels in 80 locations and 17 countries, with over 20,000 rooms and 25,000 employees. IHCL has different brands under it like Taj luxury, Vivanta  which is a upscale range with 25 hotels in 20 locations, Ginger hotels which is a midscale hotel with 45 hotels in 32 locations.

·       Ginger hotels- Ginger hotel was opened in the year 2004 in Bangalore. It offers an affordable stay at the same time says that a budgeted stay need not be unexciting and lack lustre and hence makes the stay-in-spaces creative and energising and intermix work and play , local and global. It promises  the four most important facilities termed as the 4Bs i.e. Bed, Bath, Breakfast & Broadband and is built on the solid century old expertise of IHCL. The average cost of rooms at ginger hotels is Rs 3000 per night. The IHCL tag gives this hotel a leverage to charge higher and also the ambience is more glamourous than regular budget hotels.

Since Fab hotels provide accommodation at 3-star equivalent properties it charges accordingly and is priced quiet less as compared to the cost of 3- star rooms and slightly higher for regular budget hotels.

·       Oyo rooms - Oyo is the market leader in the budget hotel sector and in expanding aggressively .  Oyo’s main focus is to provide quality service to its guests. It fulfils the objective of providing a neat and clean place along with other facilities to all the guests. Oyo helps users to search hotels according to location and price , the services provided by the hotel is not in the hands of Oyo  thus customers may not find similar standards of service everywhere. On an average an Oyo room cost just Rs 999 per night and may go up to Rs 4000 depending on location and luxury. Oyo function in more than  200 cities and has wider reach. It provides amazing promotional offers  on its already low priced rooms thus attracting more consumers. It even has come up with hourly basis bookings where you don’t have to pay the entire amount if you are staying for few hours.

Treebo hotels-Budget hotel segment whose target customer would be the mid-level business traveler. India has a significant percentage of small and medium-sized businesses that cannot afford to accommodate their employees in premium hotels but, at the same time, are willing to pay for rooms in budget hotels. Rates for budget hotels vary greatly depending on the location. Budget hotels can charge anywhere from Rs1500 to Rs2000 per day.

Currently due the Covid-19 , hotels came up with packages to accommodate people who would be living in isolation and ensures all safety and hygiene. Since the bookings are done for a long period of time it offered multiple schemes of 7 days & 14 days and offers to make the stay not only comfortable but  affordable as well. In addition it gave each guest a safety kit  containing sanitizers, sprays , masks and other things all included in the package.
