PETA:-People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is an American animal rights organization based in Norfolk, Virginia, and led by Ingrid Newkirk, its international president. The nonprofit corporation claims 6.5 million supporters.
WHY IS PETA AGAINST THE LEATHER?
"Leather can be made from cows, pigs, goats, and sheep; exotic animals such as alligators, ostriches, and kangaroos; are slaughtered for their skin. Because leather is normally not labeled, you never really know where (or whom) it came from. Most leather comes from developing countries such as India where animal welfare laws are either non-existent or not enforced. In India, a PETA investigation found that workers break cows’ tails and rub chilli peppers and tobacco into their eyes in order to force them to get up and walk after they collapse from exhaustion on the way to the slaughterhouse."After these articles of PETA many high end brands had to immediately stop manufacturing further leather products and had to face a fall in their sales of leather.
Does the leather industry stop here? Absolutely not!!! The ever evolving world of fashion has always seen leather products to be trending and hence vegan leather is the new ‘ in’ that this industry has come up with . It can also be made from innovative and sustainable materials such as pineapple leaves, cork, apple peels, other fruit waste, and recycled plastic and used to create products that put animal skins to shame. Cork, polymers and most recently made leather from cocopeat seem to be a big hit . . So, next time you are on a shopping spree don’t forget to check the vegan leather products cuz its a must in your wardrobe!!!!!!!!!!
